Neutering and Spaying Your Dog

Man’s best friend.  He will bring your paper and your slippers to make sure that you are well taken care of.  He will love on you and faithfully follow you around.  If you love him back you will make sure that he is played with and given the appropriate shots at the vet.

One of the most important ways that you can protect not only your puppy – but many others is to spay or neuter them. Many owners forget this one detail and a few months to years later they are greeted with a surprise when they realize that their dog has puppies. If you have a male dog then you are causing someone else grief and giving them a little surprise.

The biggest reason that vets and shelters stress this for your pup is to prevent the potential puppies from becoming euthanized. Did you know that if an animal that has been left at the shelter for a certain amount of time and is not adopted then they will be put down. None of us want to see a defenseless animal hurt like this.

Over 3 million dogs and cats are being euthanized in shelters every year because owners are not responsible enough to spay or neuter them. These shelters do not have enough space for them. Those who are able to give the litter away are still taking up space in homes that cats and dogs in shelters need to go to. Either way there are pets in danger.

If your male dog is not fixed and makes puppies with a stray female dog than the result is devastating. These homeless animals survive off of food from the trash cans and will defecate all over neighborhoods, parks, and other public areas that could spread diseases. They also are more wild and will often attack anyone who comes near them.

When you spay or neuter your dog you are not only saving the lives of their puppies – but you are also making your life a whole lot easier. Once the operation is complete your animal will not be as hostile and your female dog will not become over active when she is trying to mate with a male dog.

It is important for people to Spay or Neuter Dogs to keep stray puppies off the streets. If you decide not to make sure you know how to spot Pregnant Dog Symptoms so that you know how to treat them.
