Question by Jarius C: What’s with always fixing pets?
Every time you go into any pet store, their animals;cats, dogs, rabbits, etc. are always fixed? It’s like they don’t even give you a choice.
It doesn’t get any better on Y!A either, every time someone asks a question about,”My pet is pregnant” or disagrees with them by saying something like,”Why do people get their pets fixed” people say stuff like,”You’re irresponsible because your pets not fixed and it’s gonna die and have cancer and is 1,000,000,000,000% more likely to die early or have numerous other health problems”.
Is overpopulation really that much of a problem because if it is, I don’t see it.I’ve been to a lot of towns and cities and have never seen 1000′s of loose pets roaming the street.
Yeah, I’ve seen SOME stray animals but that’s the equivalent of a homeless person, they are just unfortunate(just a example).
I think people exaggerate that overpopulation issue. They’re animals, they learn how to survive in their territory.
I think when people qoute the number of animals that get put in the shelters, they don’t account for the fact that these programs just take a more animals then they can hold off the streets, then say how overpopulated an area is.
It’s like people in the superdome during Katrina, all those people may have been in there but that doesn’t mean the city was overpopulated.
I think GETTING your dog fixed is lazy because I hear people say,”I want my dog humping everything, its embarrasing” it also makes it seem like you don’t want a dog to act like a dog or cat like a cat.To me, that’s like getting a baby but get rid of its tear glands so it won’t cry, even though that’s natural and normal to the baby.
I hear a lot of people say,”It reduces Genetial cancer” well I can say the same for getting rid of his teeth to reduce gingivitis.Really,if you get rid of anything, it reduces your chance of getting that disease.
I have three dogs. Not one of them is fixed. All y’all act like the dog is suddenly gonna have pregnate every single dog.My dogs dogs are just as healthy as any other dog,my dog is just as capable of living as long as those “fixed” dogs.
What do y’all mean by “unwanted” behaviors like spraying or barking.THEIR animals,of course their gonna do that,if you can’t handle it don’t get a animal.
I think its lazier just to get a dog fixed just so you don’t have to deal with it impregnating other dogs.
Just don’t get a dog if your that worried about shelters being that overpopulated.
If pets aren’t meant to be bred because their man-made,then why aren’t you boycotting breeders.

It isn’t about the strays running free.
It’s about the ones dying in euthanasia rooms all across the country.
In Sacramento where I live, 1 shelter kills about 50 dogs EVERY SINGLE DAY. Twice that many cats. Entire litters of puppies and kittens, who don’t even have their eyes open yet.
All from people who “don’t see the point” of spay/neuter.
All from people who are too lazy.
All from people just like you.
Cancer is a small, small reason to fix your pet.
Humping is the least of the behavior issues. Most intact dogs are dominant/aggressive. They pee everywhere. They’re loud, destructive, and roam the neighborhood causing trouble and mess. They don’t make good pets.
THEN PEOPLE DUMP THEM TO DIE IN SHELTERS.
EDIT TO ADD:
All you have to do is walk into a shelter.
Volunteer.
I dare you.
One week, and you’ll know the issues facing strays and unwanted animals in your area.
1 day in the euthanasia room, and you will run screaming.
You will be begging strangers not to breed more shelter fodder.
OK, take your “super dome” analogy.
So, the shelter is the super dome, and all the animals gathered there are not from over population of strays in the area. That doesn’t change the fact…
THERE AREN’T ENOUGH HOMES FOR THEM TO GO TO!!!
Just like after Katrina blew away all those folks homes, and THEY had no where to go. Right…?!? Remember…?!?
Letting strays run the streets causes disease, hazardous conditions for people when the dogs lose their fear and start attacking people, or getting run over in traffic. I’ve seen an average sized dog total a car and send the passengers to the hospital when struck in the street.

Question by Aonghas Shrugged: Do you plan to buy “Rapture Insurance”to provide for your pets when you get taken in the rapture of the Church?
You can contract with Eternal Earth-Bound Pets,USA, a group of atheists who in return for a prepayment and signed contract will pledge to make sure your pets are properly fed, watered, and housed. See:
http://eternal-earthbound-pets.com/Contract_and_Payment.html
Would you use such a service? Or do you have friends who deny that they qualify for the Rapture and expect to be available to adopt your orphaned pets? Or do you have other solutions? (Or are your dogs and cats all saved and plan to accompany you?)

Question by Tyra Dobe: Do you think PeTa have gone to far? They want to end dog shows on TV – Vote and have your say against PeTa?
Interested in your opinions on this matter.

The article that appears in the above link:
Back in December, the BBC announced that it wouldn’t air the Crufts dog show because of concerns over purebred dogs’ health. Earlier this week, we told you that PETA is asking the USA Network, which broadcasts the Westminster Dog Show every February, to follow the BBC’s lead and discontinue coverage of America’s most prestigious dog show.
We suspected a lot of you would take issue with PETA’s premise: that breeding dogs for the show ring locks in genetic defects that, it argues, plague “as many as one in four purebred dogs … with a serious genetic problem.” But we were surprised by just how vocal you were: More than 300 of you have commented on the story so far.
Some of you agreed with PETA. Christine said, “I think it would be great if the USA Network dropped this show. Let’s do a special on the USA Network about all the adorable shelter dogs available!” And Carl S chimed in, “PETA is spot on. The AKC is about money and human arrogance, not about what’s in the best interest of dogs.”
Most of you, though, said the show must go on. “It is a total misconception that mixed breeds are more healthy than purebreds. Responsible breeders routinely screen for health problems. A mixed breed dog has no such testing and can inherit problems from many ancestors,” said Janet. And Purebred dog lover mused, “We are now in an era with the animal rightists trying to destroy and discredit breeders of purebred dogs. It must be duly noted that there are no health statistics kept on mixed breeds, just on purebred dogs. Who knows how many mixed breeds die of disease or breed problems gotten genetically from their mixed parentage?”
Many thanks for looking at this question and hopefully for voting on this topic.
I personally believe PeTa have gone too far and need to be stopped.
Please forward the link to as many dog people as possible to protect purebred dogs and our rights to watch broadcast conformation shows like Crufts and Westminster.
To add to this topic:
I am talking about reputable breeders that only breed to better their breeds – a decent breeder does not inbreed nor do they over breed (yung chelz).
A reputable breeder will not pump out puppies like a puppy mill – they are the ones who abuse dogs by breeding them from their first season and continuing to breed until the animal dies.
I own 2 Dobermann show dogs (In Australia) and I know my breeder very well, I know how many litters she has and how much work and money goes into having them health tested for genetic issues and I also know how much money she has spent bringing in new bloodlines from overseas. She does not breed for profit and she is very particular about who gets any of her puppies.
I sadly have to admit that there are those who do breed too many puppies without health testing or screening prospective owners and they tend not to produce Champion stock.. they are as bad as a puppy mill – I do not consider these as reputable breeders.

I think Peta went to far when they founded themselves.
They have a good idea, but they’ve went too far with it and have been proven to make up a lot of their videos themselves.
Plus they can be damn annoying.
